Holiday Curling, Nationals Playdowns et al...
Holiday Curling and Banquet
Join the Rainbow Rockers on December 20 for what is fast becoming a holiday tradition! To help celebrate the season, "fun" curling has returned with new twists and added excitement. Sign up for either the 3:00 PM or 5:00 PM draw, enjoy six ends of curling, plus a draw to the button competition for great prizes. After all the fun on the ice, the chefs at the Ottawa Curling Club will be carving up turkey with all the trimmings. Tickets will be on sale after your draw on November 29 and December 6. Full-Time Members $10 / Spares $20 / Guests $25.
National Playdowns
This year's Canadian Gay National Curling Championships will be held as part of the annual Western Cup, April 1-3, 2010 (Easter) in Calgary, Alberta. Ottawa will be holding playdowns to determine the two qualifying teams to this event on Sunday, January 3, 2010. There is a $100 registration fee for each team with all proceeds being provided to the qualifying teams. Games will be played at 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Please register with Tim Webster at secretary@rainbowrockers.com. The deadline for registration and payment is Sunday, December 6. Playdowns will be conducted according to CCA rules. Participants should note that to retain eligibility, three members of the qualifying team must confirm registration to the Nationals event. Exceptions will be at the discretion of Rainbow Rockers executive.
Bonspiel Season
In addition to the Nationals in Calgary, bonspiel season kicks into high gear beginning in January. Visit the "2009-2010 Bonspiels" link at rainbowrockers.com for all the details. As a result of a surplus from the Over the Rainbow bonspiel last season, a total of $500 is available to help subsidize teams participating in western bonspiels (Vancouver, Calgary and Winnipeg). Please contact bonspiel@rainbowrockers.com or president@rainbowrockers.com for more information.
Make-Up Ice for Round 2
Ice has been reserved on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM for make-up games for Round two. Note that this is not a regularly scheduled curling day, however it is the day of the Nationals playdowns. Ice is also available should you want to invite friends or get a group together to have a fun game. Please contact Patrick at drawmaster@rainbowrockers.com to reserve ice. First come-first served.
Euchre Night
Last Saturday's euchre (and rummoli) night was an overwhelming success. Thanks to all participants and a special thank-you to our sponsor, Moosehead. The next euchre night is scheduled for Saturday, January 30, 2010 (also a full curling day). Please mark your calendars.
And finally, note that there is no curling on Sunday, December 13.
